Coach LJ Hegwood is a product of the CYDC Panthers program and has been coaching for the past eight years. He is currently a senior forward for the Mount Royal Cougars and will be graduating in 2019 with a Bachelor of Business degree.
LJ's career highlights include:
"I have been brought up by some of the best coaches in the city here at CYDC, and it’s proven that you can find success while being directed properly. And I want to be a part of someone's success story! Giving back to the community is something I have always wanted to do since I received help as a player. My coaching philosophies follow those similar to John Wooden such as COMPETITIVE GREATNESS, POISE, CONFIDENCE, CONDITION, SKILL, TEAM SPIRIT, SELF-CONTROL, ALERTNESS, INITIATIVE, INTENTNESS, INDUSTRIOUSNESS, FRIENDSHIP, LOYALTY, COOPERATION & ENTHUSIASM"
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -Timo Cruz
